Global Refugee Initiatives (GRI)
Global Refugee Initiatives (GRI) is a humanitarian nonprofit organization based in Kampala, Uganda, dedicated to supporting refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and host communities through education, healthcare, justice, and economic empowerment programs.
Operating primarily in the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement in northern Uganda, GRI provides agricultural programs, vocational training, and entrepreneurship support to help individuals build sustainable livelihoods. The organization also works to improve access to education and healthcare services for vulnerable communities.
Ubuntu Model Primary School. As part of its mission, GRI established the Ubuntu Model Primary School in 2023 to provide inclusive education and academic support for refugee children. The school also offers daily meals and a safe, supportive learning environment for displaced students.
Partnership with As Humanit. Through its partnership with Ubuntu Model Primary School, As Humanity has supported refugee children, primarily from Sudan and South Sudan, living in the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement.
To help address barriers to education, As Humanity provided school supplies, learning materials, and school uniforms to more than 600 refugee students. This support enabled children to attend school with greater confidence, dignity, and stability.
Beyond providing essential resources, the initiative brought hope and encouragement to students and their families by fostering a more supportive learning environment. Through continued investment in education, As Humanity remains committed to empowering refugee children with opportunities for growth, learning, and a brighter future despite the challenges of displacement.
